Installing American Standard Kitchen Faucets

American standard kitchen faucets are now designed not only for functionality but for aesthetics as well. There are many styles, shapes, and sizes that you can choose from. Regardless of which style you go for, installing the faucet pretty much stays the same. Even a novice can install them without much effort. This will help a family save for the plumbing fixtures. The following are steps on how to install bathroom and kitchen faucets.

  • Before you start, make sure the faucet’s water supply is turned off. Look for the cold and hot shutoffs under the sink and turn them clockwise until they are tight. There are households that do not have individual shutoffs. If yours is like this, then turn off the house’s main water supply.
  • Disconnect the water supply lines that are attached to both the cold and hot sides. Once they are removed, use an adjustable wrench to loosen all the bolts.
  • Clean the sink from all kinds of debris. Make sure all the dirt from the old faucet has been removed.
  • Use a plumber’s putty and roll it into a strand that is long enough to encircle the base of the faucet. Stick another roll below the base of the replacement faucet.
  • Attach the new faucet evenly to the sink top. After this, screw and tighten the bolts. See to it that the bolts are not too tight or the faucet may crack.
  • Attach the water supply lines that you disconnected earlier.
  • Turn on the water supply and observe drips. In case of drips, you will need to tighten the nuts little by little to stop the dripping.

Installing the American standard kitchen faucets is that simple. What you need to understand is that no matter what the differences are in terms of design, you will still follow the basics in installation. The same is true with selecting the right sink, bathroom, or laundry faucets. There are many designs available for different functions but they are there to regulate the use of water in a household. You will have the need to select the best type to suit your needs. Here are some of the basic designs and when they are best used.

  • Single handled faucets and dual handled faucets. The single handle is easier to control since it only uses one lever. The dual handled ones have separate controls. Some people prefer the style and look of one compared to the other.
  • Pull out sprays are used for more mobility especially in cleaning the sink. It is also the most popular type of faucet today. While the older versions are so much heavier, the new ones are designed to be lighter.

You should also consider what kind of finish the faucet has. There are chrome and stainless steel faucets that will complement any type of kitchen. Sparkling chrome enhances the look of a sink as well as highlights the beauty of your kitchen’s interior. The stainless steel, on the other hand, gives the kitchen a more polished and professional look. All these things you should consider in finding American standard kitchen faucets.
